About Us Projects Get Involved Viet Nam Contact

Our mission is to establish libraries for the charitable and educational purposes of Vietnamese citizens living in the far south without benefit of free library or information facilities.

A library is more than a repository for books. Libraries make continuing education available to anyone willing to walk through the doors, serve as a community meeting place, offer access to computers and software training, provide safe places to study away from home. Librarians help with legal documents, and are non-judgmental community advocates who help with everything from filling out visa applications, to learning to read, to finding what you need for a school paper.

Miss Vietnam Global - 2007

We're very proud to be sponsoring Lyndzi Phuong Trang for the Miss Vietnam Global - 2007 pageant. Lyndzi has been involved with the Vietnam Library Association setting up a new affiliate fundraising group in California. She's taking a break from her efforts on our behalf to compete in this year's pageant.

We're also pleased to be working with MFC Media Entertainment and to be supporting their mission to promote cultural pride and social activism in young Vietnamese women from around the world.

As one of a very small number of contestants Lyndzi will be championing our work and trying to raise awareness for us while also trying to carry home the crown. We wish her luck with both!

MFC Media Entertainment, through the Miss Vietnam Global event, is walking a very delicate line. While they are of course looking to host an exciting, world-class entertainment event, and they are glorifying physical grace and beauty with their contestants, flash and glamour are not all they are about. If anyone took pictures of the event we would love to get copies of them. Please contact Chris at cd@vietnamlibrary.org if you have some.

There will be many exciting things happening with our organization over the next few months. Please check back frequently to see what we’re doing. In the next few weeks we will be posting additional information on how you can help to sponsor a library or do your own fundraising in support of our programs. There will also be some new pictures from Vietnam of the library project site.

You may also learn some things about Viet Nam which you would not have expected. This is a beautiful country full of generous, hard-working people. Photographs will never do the country justice, but they are a good place to start.

Read "Lan's Story" to find out why we are so strongly committed to including eye exams and free glasses in the range of services we offer in our libraries.

We value feedback on the website, and we're eager to speak to anyone with a desire to volunteer, make a donation, or willingness to learn more about what we do. Visit our contact page for a variety of ways to get in touch with us.
